International Women's Day: The Women at Marketer

And the women in tech.

Today is the International Women's Day, and we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. And what better way than to highlight the amazing women working at Marketer.

Even though women make up half of the general workforce in society, the tech industry is still lacking women. According to a study by PWC based on more than 2,000 students, only 27% of female students expressed an interest in a career in technology, compared to 61% of males - and only 3% of the females had the tech industry as their first choice. One reason is that this industry is not normally presented to women as a natural career choice, and that the available information is not specific enough on the scope and content of such a career. So, with the lack of information and lack of female role models in the industry, many have the perception that a career in technology is not for them.

At Marketer, we aim to have a diverse workforce with different backgrounds, experiences and ideas. On that note, we are pleased to reveal the following light statistics:

  • Marketer had 43 employees as of December 2020, of which 10 were women, making up 23%.
  • Today, this figure has increased to 35% of the workforce as women now account for 22 out of a total of 63 employees.
"With these increasing numbers we are hoping to help create a positive perception of the tech industry for women who are considering a career in tech, and at the same time be a role model for other companies to hire more women”, says Bethina Ekeli, Head of HR.

All employees at Marketer celebrate each other’s successes and victories, because we know that the successes of our teammates do not make ourselves less successful. We learn from each other and continue to inspire one another to surpass what is expected of us. Our diverse backgrounds and experiences accumulate into a pool of strong women with interesting ideas that help bring the company forward. Being at the forefront of the company, they can influence the overall positive direction for the company.
