Introducing Alexander Wøien, who has just begun a new adventure here at Marketer as VP Sales EMEA. Alexander comes across as an enthusiastic colleague with a lot of experience as he has worked within sales since he turned 15.
“I started at Marketer in mid-July, which is when everyone in Norway is on vacation, so I’m very excited now that everyone is back in the office. I enjoy having people around me”, he says with a smile.
So, what did you do before starting at Marketer?
Before starting here I was the Country Manager in a Finnish IT company for two and a half years, which was very exciting. I had the sole responsibility of their expansion here in Norway, so I did everything from recruitment to the growth of the company, including customer success management. I have always found sales and client relations intriguing. There is a lot of psychology incorporated, and getting chemistry with clients is very rewarding. I also really enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment, which is one of the things that captivated me about Marketer.
Name three things to become successful within sales
The initial things that crossed my mind turned out to be four points, and I just can't leave one out, so:
- Dare to fail
- Have a willingness to learn
- Be a good listener
- Work smart
As the VP Sales EMEA, what will you focus on going forward?
It feels like I am starting to get properly into my new role now, but I still have more to learn which will be my focus in the beginning, as well as planning a strategy for Marketer’s expansion in the EMEA region. I will be responsible for these goals to be met and exceeded, and I am really excited to work hard to make that happen. I want to be able to look back and be proud of what we have accomplished.
What was it with Marketer that intrigued you?
I have actually had an eye at Marketer since day one, as I have contacts within the real estate industry that have spoken really warmly about the company. In addition, I really believe in the product and solutions Marketer provides, which is extremely important for me when I work with sales. Lastly, I think Marketer’s strategy and internal environment are both amazing. You really notice the entrepreneurial vibe at the office, as well as the ambitious drive for what we want to accomplish as a unit.
Last question, what would be your ideal dinner party if you could invite anyone in the world?
Well, I am a huge sports fan so the first guest I would invite would be Michael Jordan, I think that would be exciting. Then, I would invite Aksel Lund Svindal, just because he seems like the world's nicest human and a real team player. And lastly, to spice things up I would invite Maradona, the world’s best football player in his time who also seemed like quite an interesting person. Actually, maybe I would have invited Winston Churchill as well.
